June 18, 2016: In Fairbanks, Alaska, I was lucky enough to hear about and attend the 2016 Midnight Sun Run. The annual event is a celebratory race (with an optional costume contest at the beginning!) held on or near the summer solstice each year when Alaska has its famous 'midnight sun'. That day, June 18, was my first day in Alaska; I had decided to spend some time learning my way around the bus system and, during that adventure, several friendly locals saw my camera, map, and confused expression and informed me of the festival happening that night. The friendly people I was lucky enough to meet made my day, as did the Midnight Sun Run and the fun of the night.

As a destination for Halloween night, Salem is crowded and loud, a festive feel to the streets with a grand mixture of people, most of course in costume.
